Review: CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF at Tennessee Williams Theatre Company
New Orleans: Tara Bennett on July 19, 2025 Tennessee Williams Theatre Company’s CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF, now playing at the Marquette Theatre in New Orleans, does exactly that. It’s electric. It’s guttural. And it’s one of the boldest things I’ve seen TWTC do, and that’s saying something.

Review: POOR CLARE, Orange Tree Theatre
UK / West End: Kat Mokrynski on July 19, 2025 Poor Clare, written by Chiara Atik and directed by Blanche McIntyre, tells the story of how Clare (Arsema Thomas) is influenced by fellow Assisi resident Francis (Freddy Carter) to abandon her life of riches and become devoted to God, founding the Order of Poor Ladies as a discipline of the soon-to-be Saint Francis. The play opens with Clare getting her hair done in a complicated style by two of her servants, Peppa (Liz Kettle) and Alma (Jacoba Williams), discussing the concept of poverty and what can be done about it.

UK / West End: Aliya Al-Hassan on July 19, 2025 Adapted from Shakespeare’s The Merry Wives of Windsor, director Richard Jones’s glorious Falstaff makes a welcome return to Glyndebourne, losing none of its charm or deft comedy. It is playful, witty and a pure delight.
Review: ROMEO AND JULIET at Canadian Stage
Toronto: Ilana Lucas on July 18, 2025 What did our critic think of ROMEO AND JULIET at Canadian Stage? The romantic tragedy and big emotions of Shakespeare’s famous tale of star-crossed lovers are difficult to successfully present in an age of irony. This is especially true in outdoor summer theatre, where the atmosphere lends itself more to a fun romp than heartbreak. But a tale of intractable families who nurture their hatred over everything else should feel sadly immediate regardless of where it’s performed.
Review: SIDE EFFECTS MAY INCLUDE... a Touching, Comedic Take on Mental Health
Washington, DC: Andrew White on July 18, 2025 “Side Effects” is at heart a cautionary tale about what happens when we rely too much on the judgment of others, when professional knowledge pales in the face of simple human understanding. Loomer takes us on a whirlwind tour of therapists, nurses, and others, all of them ably embodied by a company of talented shape-shifters who play a succession of nurses, therapists, friends and family.
Review: MAGDALENE is a Moving Portrait of Christianity's Infancy
Washington, DC: Andrew White on July 18, 2025 “Magdalene” is likely a play that will see numerous productions, given the times and the need for religious communities to break bread and try, in some way, to understand each other. You should definitely take time out this July to see this remarkable reflection on two of Christianity’s most pivotal figures.
